Industrial Welding in South Carolina
We're a traveling specialty welding and fabrication crew that runs mechanical scope on South Carolina's data-center and cold-storage builds. AWS-certified welders, full design-to-install, honest scoping.
In short
Sons of Thunder Welding mobilizes a full crew into South Carolina for the mechanical and piping scope behind the state's data-center and cold-storage boom.
South Carolina has become one of the South's hottest build markets, and the mechanical scope is enormous. Google is putting $9 billion into its Berkeley and Dorchester County data center campuses over 2026 and 2027 on top of an earlier $3.3 billion commitment, while a $2.4 billion campus was approved in Marion County and an 860-acre proposal in Colleton County would run into the billions. At the same time the Lowcountry's cold chain is exploding: Arcadia Cold opened a 261,779-square-foot freezer-to-cooler warehouse near the Port of Charleston, Cheney Brothers broke ground on a 386,047-square-foot refrigerated distribution facility in Florence, and operators like FlexCold are landing in Dorchester County. Add BMW's Spartanburg plant and Scout Motors' Blythewood EV build, and the Charleston, Greenville-Spartanburg, Columbia, and Pee Dee corridors are stacked with work. Builds like these typically need the same things we run: chilled-water and glycol cooling loops, closed-loop liquid cooling piping for racks, refrigeration, cooling, and process piping, sanitary food-grade stainless, pump skids, supports and hangers, and miles of field-welded process pipe. We are not a local shop chasing everyday welding. We are a traveling field welding crew and mechanical-contractor overflow crew that comes in when the schedule is tight and the mechanical scope is mission-critical. We'll tell you straight what we can take on, and we don't cut corners.

What these builds need
The mechanical scope we run
The kind of mechanical and piping scope we run as a traveling crew or overflow crew on South Carolina data-center and cold-storage projects:
- Data center cooling piping welding — chilled-water and glycol loop piping, closed-loop liquid cooling lines, and mission-critical mechanical piping for racks and CRAH/CDU systems
- Cold storage and refrigeration-system support — process and cooling piping, evaporator and condenser runs, and food-grade systems for freezers and coolers
- Sanitary stainless welding — food-grade stainless process piping fabrication and install for cold-storage and food-plant work
- Pipe spool fabrication — shop or on-site spool fab, then field welding and tie-ins to keep the install schedule moving
- Supports, hangers, skids & structural steel — pump skids, pipe supports and hangers, and structural steel fab and install
- Shutdown, turnaround & plant maintenance welding — overflow crews for tight outages and ongoing mechanical maintenance

South Carolina — FAQ
Are you a local South Carolina welding shop?
No. We're a traveling specialty crew based in Northwest Indiana and Southwest Florida, and we mobilize into South Carolina for data-center, cold-storage, refrigeration, and food-grade mechanical work. We're not here to outrank local shops on everyday welding — we come in as a dedicated field welding crew or as a mechanical-contractor overflow crew when the schedule and the scope demand it.
What kind of work do you take on for South Carolina data centers and cold-storage builds?
The mechanical and piping scope. On data centers that means chilled-water and glycol cooling loops, closed-loop liquid cooling piping, and mission-critical mechanical piping. On cold storage and food plants it means cooling and process piping, sanitary food-grade stainless, pump skids, supports and hangers, structural steel, and pipe spool fabrication with field welding and tie-ins. We handle it design-to-fab-to-install.
Can you back up a mechanical contractor that's behind schedule?
Yes — that's a core part of what we do. We run as an overflow crew when a mechanical contractor needs more certified hands to hit a data-center or cold-storage deadline, and we take on shutdown, turnaround, and plant-maintenance welding. We'll scope it honestly and tell you straight what we can take on.
What certifications and qualifications does your crew hold?
Our welders are AWS-certified, our crew is OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 trained, and we're insured and bonded. We staff full crews — never a lone welder — so we can mobilize and produce on a real project schedule.
