Industrial Welding in Georgia

Sons of Thunder Welding is a traveling specialty crew built for Georgia's data-center cooling-piping and cold-storage refrigeration boom. We roll in as your field welding crew or mechanical-contractor overflow crew and weld it to last.

In short

We are an industrial welding contractor that travels to Georgia for the mechanical piping and fabrication scope that mission-critical and food-grade builds demand, not your local everyday weld shop.

Georgia has become one of the busiest construction markets in the country, and that work plays directly to what a specialty pipe-welding crew does best. Metro Atlanta is now the second-largest data-center market in the United States behind Northern Virginia, with the amount of space under construction roughly doubling every six months since mid-2023. The dollars are staggering: Georgia drew more than 40 billion dollars in data-center investment in just the first seven months of 2025, and the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business has cited nearly 50 billion in recently announced projects. Amazon Web Services committed at least 11 billion dollars across Butts and Douglas counties, Microsoft is building out a sprawling QTS-developed campus in Fayetteville plus campuses near Union City and Rome, and giant projects like the 900-megawatt Project Sail carry 17 billion dollar price tags. Builds at that scale lean hard on liquid cooling, and the mechanical scope behind it is exactly our lane: chilled-water and glycol loop piping, closed-loop liquid cooling runs to the cold plates, pump skids, supports, hangers, and structural steel, all of it field-welded and tied in clean. About 250 miles southeast, the Port of Savannah moved roughly 5.7 million container units in 2025 as North America's largest single container terminal and can power 3,800 refrigerated containers at once, more than any U.S. port. That reefer gateway has pulled in nearly 2.4 million square feet of near-port cold storage across about a dozen facilities, including MEDLOG's 291,000-square-foot Rincon plant, and Hyundai's 7.59 billion dollar Metaplant near Savannah keeps the heavy-industrial pipeline full. Cold storage, refrigeration, and food-grade plants mean process and cooling piping, sanitary stainless welding, and stainless process piping fabrication and install, the work we run as traveling pipe welders. We are based in Northwest Indiana and Southwest Florida and we travel in as a field welding crew or a mechanical-contractor overflow crew. We will tell you straight what we can take on, and we do not cut corners.

What these builds need

The mechanical scope we run

We are not chasing everyday repair welding against Georgia's local shops. We travel in for the mission-critical mechanical and food-grade scope that data-center, cold-storage, and plant builds generate, working as a standalone field crew or as overflow for a mechanical contractor who needs more certified hands on the job.

  • Data center process piping and cooling-piping welding: chilled-water and glycol loop piping, closed-loop liquid cooling runs, and mission-critical mechanical piping tied into pump skids and CDUs
  • Cold storage and refrigeration-system support: process and cooling piping, plus the supports, hangers, and racks that carry it
  • Sanitary stainless welding and food-grade stainless for refrigerated, protein, and beverage facilities, including stainless process piping fabrication and install
  • Pipe spool fabrication, pump skids, supports, hangers, and structural steel, built in-shop and set in the field
  • Field welding crews for new-build campuses and a mechanical-contractor overflow crew when your schedule outruns your manpower
  • Shutdown and turnaround welding and plant maintenance welding scoped to keep your downtime window honest

Good to know

Georgia — FAQ

Do you work on data-center projects in Metro Atlanta?

Yes. Metro Atlanta is the second-largest data-center market in the country, and these builds run heavy on mechanical piping: chilled-water and glycol cooling loops, closed-loop liquid cooling, pump skids, supports, hangers, and structural steel. We travel in as a field welding crew or as a mechanical-contractor overflow crew to take on that piping and fabrication scope. To be clear, we are an independent traveling contractor and are not affiliated with any named campus, operator, or project.

Can you handle cold-storage and refrigeration piping near the Port of Savannah?

That is squarely our lane. Savannah's reefer-driven cold-storage build-out means refrigeration support piping, sanitary and food-grade stainless, and stainless process piping fabrication and install. We run that work as traveling pipe welders, including pipe spool fabrication and the supports, hangers, and skids that carry the system.

Are you based in Georgia?

No, and we are upfront about it. We are a traveling specialty crew based in Northwest Indiana and Southwest Florida. We are not trying to outrank Georgia's local shops for everyday welding. We target data-center, cold-storage, refrigeration, and food-grade mechanical work statewide, mobilizing crews to the jobsite for the project duration.

What certifications does your crew hold?

Our welders are AWS-certified, and the crew is OSHA 10 and 30 trained. We carry insurance and are bonded. We will scope your job honestly and tell you straight what we can and cannot take on, rather than overpromise.

Can you cover shutdowns and turnarounds, or back up our own crew?

Yes to both. We take on shutdown and turnaround welding and plant maintenance welding scoped to a real downtime window, and we work as a mechanical-contractor overflow crew when your schedule outruns your manpower. We show up as a crew, run the welding and fabrication scope, and get out clean.
